Pocket Thunderstorm Detector

Monday, June 18th, 2007

74129.jpg

This excellent device shows alerts you to thunderstorms and cloud to ground lightning up to 75 miles away. It also gives you ETA of the storms arrival. Very handy if you work in the field or golf, camp out - really any outdoor activity.

The detector uses a highly-sensitive ferrite antenna that detects the low-frequency radio signals, or sferics, emitted by lightning as they travel through the earths ionosphere. Its built-in microprocessor and software analyzes the waveform and voltage the antenna detects to tell you how far away a lightning strike was, which indicates the presence of approaching storm cells and squall lines, and provides you with storm approach speed, estimated time of arrival, distance, and more.

While not cheap - $429.95 - it might just be a lifesaver, so you can’t really put a price on that.

You can find it HERE

A great way to get the pool skimmed whilest having fun. Give the remote to your kid and kick back with a brewsky. The device collects leaves and other detritus floating on the water surface into its net, and prevents the debris from reentering the water. When cleanup is complete, the net detaches for easy disposal, and the remote-control’s 100′ range allows you to clean a pool from a shaded seat.

A tad bit pricey at $139.95 - but hey, if you have a pool thats a drop in the bucket eh? :-)

Rush Hampton 61001 Mosquito Catcher

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

41DHC9ZQ67L._AA280_.jpg

We’ve all seen the propane driven mosquito catchers, the problem with those is the price. From $200 - $500! Priced like that the units are more than prohibitive. I wouldn’t buy one of those unless I was buried waist deep in the little pests.

This new tech breakthrough comes from Rush Hampton and has gotten rave reviews. It uses no propane, and no chemicals. (There is a baiting pack available but the unit proves to be just as effective without it.)

No high voltage either - so its safe around pets and kids.

To make it even more attractive (and get it listed here) its been reduced in price
from $149.95 to $99.14 !
You can get it HERE at Amazon
