What is your Google Story?

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Have you ever had a unique, successful Google experience? You may want to share this one by writing it down or posting a video. Google invites you to do it at this site.

This was inspired from one Google user who wrote the company saying —

  • google_sm "I will always remember the very first day I got Internet at home. I had not seen my father in 17 years and had no clue where he was. The very first web page I went to was Google, and I simply wrote his name in the search box, and guess what? A public announcement from the government dated four years back mentioned him as promoted! I called the person who wrote the announcement, and by luck, she worked one floor up from my father’s office. She transferred me directly to him, and we started talking. We have been in touch since then, and it’s great!"

Contribute yours here.

I haven’t had luck like this with Google but I do use the search engine to look for names and addresses of people I need to get in touch with for non life changing matters and the searches always helped.

Gadget Sales Fall For Apple In January

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

applelogo Expected or surprised?

According to The Wall Street Journal, sales for Apple in the month of January 2009 fell by 6% when compared to figures from the same month in 2009. Apparently, Apple’s pricey computer models are turning away many consumers, especially in this time of the recession.

Apple Inc.’s unit sales of computers through U.S. retail channels fell 6% in January from the same month in 2008, the first monthly decline in three years, according to market-research firm NPD Group.

The data suggest that Apple’s premium pricing, which helped boost revenue when demand was strong, may be hurting the company now that consumers are being more careful about their spending amid the recession.

Demand for Apple’s laptop computers, in particular, had remained relatively solid for months despite the economic downturn as consumers were willing to pay higher prices for a sleek design and unique operating system. But NPD analyst Stephen Baker said consumers are becoming more price-sensitive as the economic climate continues to worsen.

“Casual buyers or people who are trying to make a choice are trading down,” Mr. Baker said.

NPD compiles estimates of sales through U.S. retailers, including Apple’s company-owned stores and Web site. The firm estimates that the dollar value of Apple’s sales through U.S. retail channels fell 11% during the month, faster than the decline in unit sales. Its market share, measured in dollars, declined to 13.7% from 16.4% in January 2008, NPD said.

This news should fuel the rumors of Apple’s plan to lower prices and release cheaper gadgets by summer of 2009.

Steve Jobs Takes A Leave Of Absence

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

05jobs2-190 This is indeed a big breaking story, but one that gadget geeks expect nonetheless.

Steve Jobs, Apple’s Chief Executive and the person responsible for making Apple what it is today, is taking a leave of absence.

It has long been rumored the honcho is battling health problems. In the last Macwold event where he usually presents to the public the latest from Apple, Tim Cook has to stand in for him and do the presentations.

The big boss is sick. Some quarters are saying that it may be something more serious than we can ever imagine. The memo he released to his staff is right after the cut…

We wish him well and get well soon, Mr. Jobs!

Windows 7 Beta

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

Windows 7 Beta has been released last week and it will hopefully fix whatever it is most people did not like about the Vista. I, in fact, have never stuck with the Vista, so maybe this new one will be something I can work with.

The new Windows supposedly promises “less crashing”…and that’s something I wanna see for myself! It also has integrated new features for absorbing social networking sites, which everyone seems to be on these days.

While the software is still in beta phase, operating it is still not in full form and right now, there is no on call support system for it. It is suggested that if you want to fiddle with Windows 7, don’t use your main computer.

To learn more about this, you can head on to Technet for more information.
