Thanko Mini Projectors

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Those who enjoy watching videos on their hand helds, like the iPod may now enjoy the images on a bigger screen and resolution, thanks to this mini-projector from Thanko, the famed Japanese website for many things weird and extra-ordinary.

The Miseal Mini-Projector includes a stand and a speaker dock. It may be easily attached to the iPod or any hand held device for that matter, and then one would just have to beam away the images from it, at least 16 feet away from a blank wall or screen. It’s so small and manageable and is quite portable, too. You can bring this thing anywhere, as easy as you bring your hand helds with you all the time.

The mini projector cost about $441.

LCD Screen Digital Microscope

Friday, January 4th, 2008

44340_lcddigitalmicro_mid.gif

This little nifty gadget caught my eye and I can’t stop thinking how cool it would be to have one. Certainly a great thing for kids to experiment with, and it could be pretty darn useful around the workshop.

The best part is of course the LCD screen - a 3.5″ color. The screen itself has an SD card slot for taking pictures of what you are viewing and you can even connect it up to a PC via USB cable to transfer images.

Its got a 6 position color filer and can view from 40 to 400 Power - up to 1600 Power with Digital Zoom.

Thats pretty incredible.

It runs for $300 and the manufacturers page is HERE

Qingbar GP300 Wireless Video Glasses

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

gp300_2.jpg

Wow - this has got to be the most incredible thing to get any time of the year - let alone for christmas. Touted as the worlds first video glasses with built in media player - these glasses make it seem like your watching a huge 50″ display. Imagine watching a huge screen while lying down in bed or taking a bath even. ( Just don’t drop ‘em in the water! )

Qingbar glasses features a sleek, light weight design with LCOS micro displays, which deliver crisp, vivid-color, QVGA video image simulates the image of a 50” display from a distance of 2M away. You just insert a mini SD card into the slot, and then you can entertain yourself with your favorite movie, MP3 music, lovely photos, or e-book text.

E book text? thats an idea I hadn’t thought about - now thats the way to read a book eh? a 50″ book!
You can also connect it up to a TV tuner to watch your favorite shows. Another well thought out feature is its user replaceable battery.

Sporting a digital signal processing video chip the Liquid Crystal displays have a resolution of WQVGA (432×240) - which is to say that they are not high def. Really though - who cares ? The cool factor of these things outweighs that by a good margin methinks.

Here is the Product page

The suggested price is $399 - but if you preorder now…. you get ‘em for $299.

Merry Christmas !

Pocket Thunderstorm Detector

Monday, June 18th, 2007

74129.jpg

This excellent device shows alerts you to thunderstorms and cloud to ground lightning up to 75 miles away. It also gives you ETA of the storms arrival. Very handy if you work in the field or golf, camp out - really any outdoor activity.

The detector uses a highly-sensitive ferrite antenna that detects the low-frequency radio signals, or sferics, emitted by lightning as they travel through the earths ionosphere. Its built-in microprocessor and software analyzes the waveform and voltage the antenna detects to tell you how far away a lightning strike was, which indicates the presence of approaching storm cells and squall lines, and provides you with storm approach speed, estimated time of arrival, distance, and more.

While not cheap - $429.95 - it might just be a lifesaver, so you can’t really put a price on that.

You can find it HERE
