The IV Drip Dr. Hardrive

Friday, May 8th, 2009

IV_drip_hard_drive

This is rather cute and fun. It’s a devise you use to “heal” your PC and it looks like a hospital IV drip, like literally a cure for your computers. The drip bag has a virus program and is also featured with the means to recover corrupt files. Just plug this into the computer and it will blink and flash when the devise is at work. When it does that, it does look like it’s “healing” the computer.

This concept comes from Hyuh Jin Lee.

  • This object, which has a circuit of hard drive, is truly working as a tangible virus vaccine by applying the metaphor of IV drip bag. When you plug it into your laptop, the vaccine software can be turned up in the screen and operate system. Also, the light for feedback in the IV drip bag turns on while using it.

LCD Screen Digital Microscope

Friday, January 4th, 2008

This little nifty gadget caught my eye and I can’t stop thinking how cool it would be to have one. Certainly a great thing for kids to experiment with, and it could be pretty darn useful around the workshop.

The best part is of course the LCD screen - a 3.5″ color. The screen itself has an SD card slot for taking pictures of what you are viewing and you can even connect it up to a PC via USB cable to transfer images.

Its got a 6 position color filer and can view from 40 to 400 Power - up to 1600 Power with Digital Zoom.

Thats pretty incredible.

It runs for $300 and the manufacturers page is HERE

Electromagnetic Field Detector

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

30820_80.eps.jpg

Now just to get things straight - I’m not advocating using this to find otherworldly spirits in your house :-) If you want to go ghost hunting, you probably want one of those um “special” units.

You then might ask yourself - Just what do I need an EMF detector for?

Use #1
Well, for starters we all have some kind of magnetic media in the house, be it cassette tapes, VHS tapes , (maybe home videos?) , Floppy disks, camcorder tapes, etc.

You want to find a place in your house to store these where the EMF fields are the lowest.

Use #2
High EMF fields can indicate excessive current draw - so if your doorbell transformer is giving off a huge field, it may be shorting out to some extent and costing you money each month. ( note you could also find improper wiring faults using the same principal)

Use #3
High EMF fields are also unhealthy - if you knew your living room couch was right over that 220v 40 amp run - you might just re-arrange the room around that.

Use #4
Tv Screens ,Monitors etc. -they by nature give off quite a field, you could use the meter to find the best spot on your desk (or under it) where the monitor would affect the pc (and its drive within) the least.

Probably the biggest reason I’m even bringing this gadget up is that my favorite Science Store Edmund Scientific has it for only $24.95 !

Ultra low Temp Digital Sensors

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

ITs gonna get cold soon - and most digital thermometers wont handle below freezing temps - these however are made for just that job.

THGN123N_rg.jpg

This temperature and humidity sensor can transmit data in even the coldest temperatures. When used with 2 AAA lithium batteries (not included), this sensor can transmit temperature and humidity data up to 100 feet, and will operate even at -40 degrees F. Has an easy-to-open battery cover and can transmit on one of three different channels.

Lets hope none of us sees -40 this year!

The Camera Detector

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

pocket_camdet.jpg These days you can’t be sure where a cam could be hidden, they build pinhole cameras into just about everything. With this portable gadget you can do a sweep of a room and find hidden cams in seconds….

Quickly, easily, and discreetly conduct sweeps of your home, office, or hotel room to locate hidden wireless cameras. Simply point the compact camera towards walls and ceilings; and alarm will sound when a frequency of 50MHz to 3GHz is detected.

Priced nicely at $29.95 - you can find it HERE

ThermoHAWK 400 Infrared Thermometer

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

A pen sized infrared thermometer, I use a larger version for everything from seeing how hot the pan is on the stove, to finding heat leaks in the house come wintertime. This ultra portable model would be great for anyone needing to read a temperature of a surface either at home or on the run. It measures temperatures from -27° F to 428° F. And it’s also price reduced - from 79.95 to 52.49!

Kill A Watt

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

This device measures the amount of energy used by whatever you plug into it. I own one myself and it has finally answered questions like…

“How much are these Christmas lights actually costing me?”
“If I turn the fridge down one notch, how much money per month will it save?”
“How much is my TV being on standby when its off costing me per month?”

It also has other test modes useful for other diagnostics - voltage / amperage / kw-h / time

It does have a limit of 15 amps so you won’t be able to use it on your clothes dryer - but just about everything else is fair game.

Get it from Amazon for $28.99killawatt_.jpg
